Who you're agreeing with

Desktap is offered by Mikhail Zhukov, an individual software developer based in Cyprus. In these terms, "I" and "me" refer to me; "you" refers to you, the user. You can contact me at support@desktap.app.

Accepting these terms

By downloading, installing, or using Desktap you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

What Desktap is

Desktap is an iPhone and iPad app that, together with a free macOS companion app ("Desktap Agent") downloaded from desktap.app, turns your iOS device into a programmable control surface for your Mac. The two pieces communicate over your local Wi-Fi network.

License

I grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Desktap on any devices you own or control, for personal or business use, subject to these terms and to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sublicense, or reverse-engineer the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.

Subscriptions and lifetime purchase

Desktap offers optional in-app purchases that unlock Pro features:

• Monthly subscription
• Annual subscription
• Lifetime purchase (one-time payment)

The current price for each option is displayed in the App Store before you confirm a purchase.

The monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Renewal, billing, and cancellation are handled by Apple under the terms shown to you at the time of purchase; you can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings. The lifetime purchase is a single, one-time payment — it does not renew, and nothing recurring is charged. All payments are processed by Apple; I never see or store your payment details.

"Lifetime" means the lifetime of Desktap as a product, not your personal lifetime. If I ever discontinue Desktap entirely, lifetime access ends with it. In such a case I will give as much advance notice as I reasonably can.

Refunds and the EU right of withdrawal. Refund requests are processed by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital content under the EU Consumer Rights Directive; that right is subject to the conditions of the Directive (for example, it may be limited once download or use has begun with your express consent) and is administered via Apple.

Running commands on your Mac — important

Desktap lets you bind buttons to shell commands, AppleScript snippets, system shortcuts, and similar actions that run on your Mac with your user account's privileges. Please understand and accept the following before configuring any such action:

• You are responsible for every command you configure, whether you wrote it yourself, copied it from the internet, or had an AI assistant suggest it. I cannot review or vet these commands.
• The Desktap Agent generates a local authentication token (stored at ~/.desktap-mcp-token) that grants the ability to execute arbitrary commands on your Mac through the agent's local HTTP API. Treat it like an SSH key. If it leaks, rotate it.
• If you connect an AI assistant via MCP, the assistant can propose buttons that run shell commands. Each such change requires your explicit approval on the iOS device before it takes effect, but once approved the commands execute under your user account. You are responsible for what you approve.
• I am not liable for data loss, system damage, security incidents, or any other harm resulting from commands you (or an AI assistant on your behalf) configured or approved.

Acceptable use

Don't use Desktap for anything illegal, to harm other people or systems, or to bypass other services' terms of service. Don't try to extract, redistribute, or resell the app or its assets.

Intellectual property

The Desktap name, logo, and the source code, design, and assets of the apps and this website belong to me. These terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.

Third-party services

Desktap optionally integrates with third-party AI assistants (such as Claude Desktop) via the Model Context Protocol. Your use of those assistants is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies — I am not a party to that relationship.

Apple App Store

The Desktap iOS app is distributed through the Apple App Store. The macOS Desktap Agent is a separate, free download from desktap.app and is not distributed through the App Store, so this section does not apply to it. Because the iOS app is distributed via the App Store, the following additional terms apply to it (in this section, “the App” means the Desktap iOS app):

• Apple's EULA. Your use of Desktap is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. The Apple EULA is incorporated into these Terms by reference. To the extent of any conflict, the Apple EULA shall govern with respect to its specific subject matter (such as Apple's Usage Rules for licensed applications).
• Apple is not the provider. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance, support, or warranty for Desktap. Any questions, complaints, or claims regarding the app should be directed to me at support@desktap.app, not to Apple.
• Warranty. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the App to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty will be my sole responsibility.
• Product claims. I, not Apple, am responsible for addressing any claims you or any third party may have relating to Desktap or your possession and use of it, including: (i) product liability claims; (ii) any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
• Intellectual property claims. In the event of any third-party claim that the App or your possession and use of it infringes that party's intellectual property rights, I, not Apple, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.
• Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

No warranty

Desktap is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every Mac or iOS configuration.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of Desktap. For any direct damages, my total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid for Desktap in the twelve months preceding the claim (or €30 if you used a free version).

Consumer rights

If you are a consumer in the European Union, nothing in these terms removes or restricts any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law, including the right to a remedy for defective digital products. Those statutory rights apply alongside, and prevail over, anything written here that would weaken them.

Termination

You can stop using Desktap at any time by uninstalling it.

I may suspend or stop providing the service if you materially breach these terms. For clarity, "material breach" includes: using Desktap for illegal activity, deliberately attempting to compromise other users or systems through the app, circumventing the App Store's payment system, or repeatedly violating the acceptable use rules above after being asked to stop.

If I terminate your access for any reason other than your material breach, I will refund the unused portion of any active subscription. A lifetime purchase remains valid even if I terminate your access, unless the termination was for material breach. If I discontinue Desktap entirely, I will give reasonable advance notice; see "Subscriptions and lifetime purchase" above.

Changes

I may update these terms from time to time. When I do, I'll update the date at the top of this page. If changes are material, I'll mention them in the app or in release notes. Continued use after changes means you accept the new version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, except for any provisions that would require applying another jurisdiction's laws. Mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence still apply.
